Maternidade condenses one of art's oldest subjects to its essentials: over a blue ground worked in texture, mother and child are drawn in dark contour, folded into a single form. The line does everything — protection, weight, embrace — while the blue field holds the pair in stillness. A small work with the concentration of an icon.
